UPDATE – The Lakewood Board of Education is now offering a reward of $3,600 for information that leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the crime, according to the school's website.

A candlelight vigil will be held Sunday evening in the Lakewood High School parking lot at 6:30 in remembrance of Jesus Lopez-Grande. Additionally, counselors will be available at the school for students on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.


 

LAKEWOOD – A young teenage boy was killed in a hit and run accident Friday evening, according to the Lakewood Township Police Department.

The accident was reported just after 9:00 pm after two pedestrians were struck by what was described as a dark in color Jeep Cherokee. Further investigation revealed that both a father and son were hit while walking east along Oak Street.

The vehicle was last seen fleeing the area south of Albert Avenue.

Jesus Lopez-Ramirez, 37, of Lakewood, sustained an injury to his elbow and was transported to the hospital for treatment. His 15-year-old son suffered significant bodily injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead the scene.

The identity of the teenager was not immediately released by police.

The Lakewood Township Police Department is working in conjunction with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office in this investigation.
