Fire engulfs townhouse in Middletown requiring 50 firefighters to put out

It took six companies and 50 firefighters to put out a raging fire emanating from a dwelling located on Clubhouse Drive in Middletown Township.

When the Middletown Township Fire Department arrived on scene Saturday morning around 6:37 am, responding to a call that had come in from a neighbor, they saw heavy flames in the structure fire coming from the middle unit of 135 Clubhouse Drive, according to MTFD Public Information Officer Dennis Fowler in a statement.

MTFD was joined on scene by Community, East Keansburg, Belford Independent, Middletown Township Fire Company No. 1, River Plaza and Old Village Fire Companies.

The collaborative effort resulted in the fire being suppressed and ultimately extinguished.

The unit that caught fire was unoccupied at the time of the fire and Fowler said that search and rescue teams searched all the townhouses to make sure that everyone had escaped the structure.

When the fire was called under control by MTFD Chief John Friedman, and then put out by 8:58 am, the building's utilities were secured by New Jersey Natural Gas, Jersey Central Power and Light and New Jersey American Water.

There were no injuries reported and the fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s office.

The MTFD Air Unit, Safety Unit, Field Communications as well as the Middletown Township Police Department were on scene in addition to the firefighters as well as Middletown Township Emergency Medical Services and ten EMS providers from Middletown and Port Monmouth First Aid Squads.
