A former police sergeant in Harvey Cedars has been sentenced to two years of supervised probation for taking an ATV being donated by a resident and meant for the beach patrol or police department in 2017 and storing it at his home.

Sean Marti, 49, of Stafford continued to use the ATV until the Ocean County Prosecutors Office recovered it in December of last year.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced that Marti was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Wendel E. Daniels, Pr.J.Cr.P., who also executed a Forfeiture of Public Office Order to the former police sergeant.

This Order permanently forfeits Marti’s employment with the Harvey Cedars Police Department and bars him from any future public employment in the State of New Jersey.

Marti pled guilty to a charge of Theft of Movable Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3, a 3rd Degree Crime, on May 2, 2019.

Marti was sentenced today in Ocean County Superior Court.

As a condition of his probation, Marti must also make restitution by returning the ATV to its rightful owner.
