New Jersey man who cruelly looted sick girlfriend’s bank account, heads to prison

A Lacey Township man who cruelly took advantage of his then-sick girlfriend by devising a scheme to steal from her bank accounts has now received a sentence for prison, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

It was in June of 2021 that 56-year-old Ross Miserendino was charged, in August of 2022 that he pleaded guilty, and now here in November of 2022 has been sentenced to five years in state prison for Theft.

Along with the sentence, Miserendino has been ordered to pay $217,300 in restitution to his now ex-girlfriend.

She was sick at the time, suffering from some medical issues in 2019 which left her in a state where she couldn't manage her finances on her own for the time being, according to the investigation run by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Economic Crime Squad and Lacey Police.

She called on her boyfriend to help her out with things like paying her bills, so, she gave him access to her checks and bank account information to be able to do so.

Instead of doing what he was asked, Miserendino signed her name on the checks -- 146 of them totaling $171,000 -- between 2019 and 2020 and wrote many of them out instead to Enrique Rodlan, 43, of Jackson, and wrote others to himself.

In addition to both men sharing in the heists, Miserendino took things to a lower level by stealing $11,000 worth of her personal property from her home in Lacey and then taking out an American Express credit card in her name, and then making about $34,000 in charges on it, spending it on himself.

Both men were charged with Theft in June of 2021 and then processed and released from custody on a summons pending their respective days in Ocean County Superior Court.

Prosecutor Billhimer said that the charges against Roldan in this case, remain pending.

Ocean County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Heisler and Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Kelly handled this case on behalf of the State, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.
