Former Howell schools band leader, IT director from Jackson sentenced for child porn distribution
A Jackson man, in the process of serving an eight year sentenced in a Federal Correctional Facility in Mississippi for receiving child porn, has just received a concurrent sentence of five years out of Ocean County for distributing it, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced on Tuesday.
Matthew Wolny, 43, hid a camera inside a bathroom area at the Y.M.C.A. in Toms River back in 2013 and videotaped people changing and taking a shower.
While a youth band leader and IT Director in the Howell School District, Wolny also videotaped students during a class trip in Maryland.
His sentence of five years for this series of charges will run concurrently with his federal prison sentence.
Wolny will also have to register as a sex offender when released from prison.
He pled guilty to the charge on November 26, 2018 but Prosecutor Billhimer said that his sentencing here was delayed as they waited for the sentencing on related federal charges involving child pornography.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit and Jackson Police learned Wolny had been distributing child pornography through a file sharing application on his computer and on September 26, 2013, Detectives executed a search warrant at his residence seizing computer equipment which contained evidence of child pornography distribution.
Wolny was charged by the United States Attorney’s Office in 2018 on these offenses.
On August 20, 2019, Wolny was sentenced to eight years in federal prison on the charge of Receiving Child Pornography.
Prosecutor Billhimer said Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kristin Pressman handled the case on behalf of the State.
