Shine a Light and help those in need in our area.

Fulfill (formerly The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties) will distribute over 52,000 LED light bulbs to people in need through their network of food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, day programs, and group homes.

You see, Fulfill is more than just a food bank. Not only do they feed our struggling neighbors, they help those in trouble try to get back on their feet in both big and small ways. Providing these LED light bulbs is part of that effort.

Shine Light on Hunger is meant to help raise awareness about the issue of hunger, which you may not know is causing one or more of your neighbors to struggle. Hunger is one of those issues that is so often hidden by, say, parents who feel ashamed that they can't afford to grocery shop. The bottom line is that some of your neighborhood friends and children at your kids' schools could be suffering silently with lack of access to enough food.

The energy efficient light bulbs that are going to be handed out were purchased and distributed with funds from New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program. Over 26,000 two- packs of soft white 60W LED light bulbs will be given out to households in need in Monmouth and Ocean Counties along with info showing people ways they might not be aware on how to reduce costly electric bills long term..The ENERGY STAR© certified bulbs last approximately 15,000 hours, use up to 90% less energy, and last at least 15 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

Fulfill feeds 136,000 people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties per year, 50,000 of them are children. Fulfill serves pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens, provides hot meals for children after school, and sends food home for those same children over the weekend during the school year.

Fulfill also provides additional services to Monmouth and Ocean County residents in need to help improve their overall situation, assisting with tax preparation, connecting people to SNAP (food stamps) benefits, and even with job training in their culinary program.

If you're in a position to contribute to a non-profit, here's why you might want to consider donating to Fulfill to help those with food insecurity: 96 cents of every dollar donated to Fulfill goes directly to feeding the hungry in our community.
