The days of free parking in Freehold Borough are over.

Council members just announced a $150,000 bond which will be used to purchase and install "smart" parking meters throughout the areas of town that the borough owns.

Being a "smart" parking meter means that they will not accept cash but instead can be paid for using your phone.

The idea is to help create a faster turnover because the area is known to get very congested on Friday and Saturday nights. More people means more revenue for the local businesses and therefore more room for local improvements as the money comes in.

There are still some details that remain up in the area including where employees who work downtown plan to park or how much the meters will charge.

So what do you think....is it worth it?
