It looks like the Jersey Shore residents in Freehold may soon be able to light up!

It has just been announced that the Borough Council has unanimously voted to support the very first medical marijuana dispensary in the municipality!

The dispensary was proposed to be built at a former warehouse at 195 Throckmorton Street but the State Department of Health still has to approve the location.

This discussion has only happened because a group named Garden State Botanicals, which was formed by pharmaceutical veteran Pat Nasshorn of Margate, gave a presentation at the special council meeting on Monday.

Their goal is to open the dispensary to offer help to those in need of medical marijuana and Pat has been an advocate since her husband passed away five years ago from brain cancer and had minimal access to the drug.

One of the suggestions to curtail any issues was to only have the dispensary open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM with no late hours.

Now a HUGE bonus is that this type of business is estimated to raise $120,000 to $160,000 for the Freehold Borough from taxes.

To me, it sounds like people are going to get their hands on the stuff either way so might as well legalize and monitor it so the town can make revenue that can be used to improve the town.

So there are a lot of other details that are being taken into account regarding the medical marijuana dispensary.

But it looks like the tides are finally turning and a dispensary could be in Freehold's future.

Does this mean other Jersey Shore towns will soon follow?

And what do you think of this possible new addition?

Time will tell.
