On Election Day 2020, New Jersey voted to legalize marijuana in New Jersey. While politics are getting in the way of making weed legal in the Garden State, that hasn't stopped two new dispensaries to open here at the Jersey Shore.

It should be noted that these dispensaries are for medical marijuana.

The first of the two locations is set for Asbury Park. It will be operated by Breakwater Treatment and Wellness based out of Cranbury.

Breakwater wouldn't tell the Asbury Park Press exactly where the Asbury location would be set up, but Breakwater's spokesperson said:

It will be located away from downtown Asbury Park and the beach, near the NJ Transit train station on Main Street.

This was posted on the company's Instagram page.

The caption reads:

Greetings from Asbury Park! We’re delighted to announce our first major expansion: Breakwater Asbury Park! We can’t wait to bring New Jersey’s best and most reliable cannabis products to a convenient location on the Jersey Shore. More details to come. We’ll see you at the beach!

The other Shore location being planned is at the old site of Smashburger at 2100 Asbury Avenue in Neptune City.

The dispensary has a name already. There is a sign currently hanging in the window saying that Zen Leaf is coming soon.

Zen Leaf is based in Elizabeth.

These medical marijuana dispensaries have a long way to go before being able to operate. Not only are there stringent zoning hurdles, but approval for these locations have to be approved on the local and state level.

Remember, these are proposed medical marijuana dispensaries. It's going to be a bit before legal weed is free and clear in New Jersey.
