I think a piece of my childhood died today.

Right up there with when Toys R' Us announced it was closing.

That's probably being dramatic, but this really feels like a punch in the gut.

Scrolling through the news I saw that a beloved frozen treat is being discontinued!

This was one of those desserts too, that was in a league of its own, nothing else really compared.

On top of that, it was the perfect frozen snack to have when you were spending long hot days at the beach.

I can still remember the first time I had one of these right here at the Jersey Shore.

I was 5 or 6 years old in Sea Isle City, and the fudgie-wudgie man (guy who sold ice cream out of a rolling cooler across the beach) was out of Chipwich's.

That's when I looked at the menu again and saw something that really caught my eye.

It was ice cream, with fudge, nuts, and chocolate swirls that came in a shell.

I'd never seen or tried one of these things before but it combined my two favorite foods at the time; ice cream and tacos.

It's a day I probably won't forget, and if you've ever had a Choco Taco before you probably remember your first one too.

Choco Taco is being discontinued

It hurts even to type!

But according to NJ.com it was announced after a 40 year run, the Choco Taco will be no more.

Apparently, Klondike is looking to focus on other products due to a spike in their popularity.

Now, I'll admit Klondike makes some pretty good ice cream; their cones are solid, and so are their Reese's Klondike Bars.

However, none of them are nearly as good as the Choco Taco!

How Long Will Choco Taco Be Around For?

Klondike is discontinuing their genius Choco Taco, but that doesn't mean that it will immediately disappear.

You'll still be able to find it in stores, until the supply finally runs out.

Can Anyone Save the Choco Taco?

I'm not sure what the deal would look like, but Reddit co founder Alexis Ohanian did send out a tweet saying he'd be interested in buying the rights to the Choco Taco.

There are, like I mentioned so many great frozen treats to enjoy here at the Jersey Shore; Kohrs. Bros, Polish Water Ice, Mister Softee's, Yellow Brick Ice Cream Carousel, and Mrs. Walker's just to name a few.

But the idea of not being able to fend off a seagull from swooping in and trying to steal my beloved Choco Taco is really disappointing.

Choco Taco may be gone, but these are 25 snacks you can still get in New Jersey
