TOMS RIVER — A bicyclist was injured in Toms River after an impaired driver hit him and took off on Sunday, July 28th.

Vicente Guzman, 37, of Toms River was riding his bike on James Street near Berry Street when Anthony Cipolletti, 29, of Bayville hit him head-on.

Guzman came to rest in the eastbound lane on James Street. The force of the impact caused damage to Cipolletti's car. Cipolletti briefly stopped but fled the scene until he returned 20 minutes later.

Guzman was transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center via medivac helicopter due to serious bodily injuries and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Cipolletti was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, Driving with a Suspended License, Unlicensed Driver, as well as additional charges.

The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Police.

CHARGES ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS. SUSPECTS ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
