A team of assessors from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) are coming to town on Sunday, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced today, where they will be conducting an assessment of the office and employees and members of the general public are invited to provide comments to the team as the OCPO applies for accreditation.

”The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar New Jersey law enforcement agencies," Harry J. Delgado, the Accreditation Program Director for the NJSACOP, said. "The assessors will review written materials, interview agency members, and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status.”

The NJSACOP through its New Jersey Law Enforcement Association Commission, is a legitimate authority and accreditation agency in the State of New Jersey.

“We welcome the team of assessors to ensure that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is employing best practices in its commitment to the pursuit of justice and excellence in law enforcement," Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. "While accreditation is voluntary, we embrace this process because it promotes greater accountability, reduced exposure to civil lawsuits, and enhanced public confidence in our ability to operate in a just and efficient manner. Accreditation is a vital tool for any law enforcement agency and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is no exception.”

Accreditation is valid for a three-year period during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting to their continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments regarding the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office ability to comply with the standards for the accreditation may forward them to Harry J. Delgado, Accreditation Program Director, New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission at 751 Route 73 North, Suite 12, Marlton, N.J. 08053, or email to hdelgado@njsacop.org and you can email comments to Accreditation Manager Kevin Moore at kmoore@co.ocean.nj.us.

You may also call in at (732) 831-7900 on Sunday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
