There have been rumors of Wall Speedway shutting down for a quite some time now. On Wednesday word came from the owners of the stadium that the end of an era is soon approaching.

Wall Speedway's final racing season will be in 2020 after hosting events since 1950.

Why the closure? The owners of Wall Speedway said in a press release:

The majority of the sprawling tract, deemed grossly underutilized for decades, consists of giant parking lots that lie mostly dormant, other than the handful of days each year when the track is open for competition.

It is being reported that Pulte Homes plans to build close to 350 homes on the site. However, I wouldn't bank on it just yet. The prospect of building on the site of Wall Speedway has been around for a while. Township red tape and disputes could possibly hold up construction plans.

What we do know is that the "roar at the Shore" will go silent after the 2020 season.
