The ’80s are back in New Jersey, but not every trend deserves a comeback
It’s no surprise that signs of the 1980s are alive and well across the country. Most notable, of course, is the continued popularity of ’80s music.
And it’s no exception here in the Great Garden State. From North Jersey to South Jersey, New Jerseyans are cranking up ’80s hits everywhere they go.
That actually makes a lot of sense. It’s part of the reason classic hits and classic rock formats remain so dominant. Right now, the 1980s are enjoying a full-blown revival.
Before we get into why not every trend from that decade deserves a second life, take a moment to step back in time. Below is a nostalgic look at an old Sears magazine from the 1980s. Pay attention to the toys, the fashion choices, and the overall aesthetic that once filled homes across New Jersey.

So did you notice the kitchen play set?
In New Jersey, certain things probably should remain frozen in time. One of them, in particular, has everything to do with your kitchen.
If you looked closely at the magazine, you may have already spotted it. Take another glance at the kitchen scenes and see if you can figure out what should never return. Chances are, younger generations wouldn’t be on board with this look at all.
Did you notice the kitchen play set?
That old-school mustard color scheme jumps right out. And honestly, who in today’s world wants mustard-colored appliances in their kitchen?
It’s probably safe to say that trend isn’t coming back anytime soon — and that’s a good thing. New Jersey should never allow that ugly kitchen trend to return, ever.
Of course, the mustard look wasn’t the only thing you’d find in older homes. In fact, many trends from the 1980s were actually pretty interesting — just not that one.
