🔴 Family dog attacked, killed 3-month-old child

🔴 Mother was seriously injured

🔴 No charges will be filed against the parents

WOODBRIDGE — No criminal charges will be filed after a pit bull viciously mauled a baby to death in Middlesex County on Saturday.

Police got a disturbing call from a home on Mereline Avenue in Woodbridge around 6:17 a.m. Saturday, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

A baby in the home had been attacked by the family dog, the caller reported.

The dog was a pit bull, said MCPO spokesperson Brynn Krause on Monday.

Officers found a horrific scene when they arrived. The baby and the mother had both been victims of a vicious dog attack.

The infant, a 3-month-old boy, was declared dead at the scene. The mother suffered "serious injuries" in the attack.

Both the mother and father were taken to the hospital. They were released later the same day.

The pit bull has been euthanized by a veterinarian after the attack, Krause said. She said that no criminal charges would be filed.

The prosecutor's office did not release any more details on Monday.

Anyone who has information is asked to contact MCPO Det. Michelle Coppola at 732-745-3477.
