The Count Basie Theatre, now known as the Count Basie Center for the Arts, was founded in 1926 as the Carlton Theatre. The Carlton was an old vaudeville and movie house before being renamed in 1984 in honor of the jazz legend Count Basie.

The Count Basie Theatre was renamed the Count Basie Center for the Arts in 2018. The "center" consists of several theatres:
