According to WebMD, "Stink bugs are invasive, six-legged insects. They are almost two centimeters long with a shield-like shape, and a grayish speckled coating. As the name suggests, these insects will produce a stinky odor when you crush them. Other than the unpleasant smell, stink bugs are only dangerous to certain plants."

According to a recent Patch article, the best defense against the stink bug is to keep them out of your home or business. As temps start to drop these stinky buggers are going to try to get into your nice warm comfy home so make sure your home is sealed. Check your windows and doors and make sure they are sealed properly. Check your foundation and attic etc. "Your best defense is to arm yourself with weather stripping, caulking and tape, and make your home a fortress. Seal up gaps and crevices around foundations and any area where doors, windows, chimneys and utility pipes are cut into the exterior. Any opening large enough for a stink bug to crawl through should be sealed."

So how do you protect yourself from getting "stunk" by the stink bug? It's simple don't squash them! "If you do find them inside, don’t squash them, because they’ll emit a stench some have described as similar to rotten vegetables or a skunk. The best thing to do if you find them inside is gently sweep them into a bucket, then fill it with a couple of inches of soapy water." So no squashing, or you may end up with a stinky situation. I personally would advise against vacuuming them because that usually ends up leaving you with a stinky vacuum and rug. Gently remove them and either toss them outside or maybe go with the soapy water technique. How do you get rid of stink bugs? Post your comments below and good luck and keep your house smelly like roses not $@#!
