A Manchester resident has been found guilty of threatening woman with a gun outside the home they were both living in a reported domestic violence incident.
The victim went to Manchester Police on the evening of July 23, 2019, around 10:45 pm, reporting that as she was leaving the Northampton Boulevard home she was living in with her infant child, the accused and his father, she was threatened at gunpoint, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.
She said there was an argument between her and Mark Britt, 32, and that afterwards she decided to leave with her child.
Britt is accused of then threatening her while holding a handgun as she was putting the child in the vehicle.
After she got away and went to report the incident, Manchester Police responded to the home, investigated, and spoke to Britt who initially denied there was a gun at the home but consented to officers searching his room.
Police said they found ammunition and other evidence there was a gun there and Britt admitted to having them and surrendered the firearms -- two of which were buried in the backyard along with ammo and firearm accessories.
Britt was then arrested, brought to the Ocean County Jail, and then released due to New Jersey's Bail Reform Law.
He was found guilty in court by a Judge and Jury of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Harassment in connection to the incident where he used a gun to threaten a woman at the home they shared together.
Britt is scheduled to be sentenced on May 19 and Prosecutor Billhimer says he faces up to ten years New Jersey State Prison, with a parole ineligibility period of 42 months.
Prosecutor Billhimer said that Ocean County Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Michael Abatemarco and Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Julie Peterson tried the case on behalf of the State.
