NJ Teen Spreads Joy Through Music in Hospitals, Seeks Local Musicians
Music helps relax someone who is sick because it can lower stress, ease pain, and create a calming mood. The rhythm and melodies distract the mind from discomfort, while familiar or gentle sounds can bring comfort and a sense of peace.

This is why it may be such a commendable effort by one local teen who comforts those who are ill with music. This is an inspiring story that is helping those who are not feeling well and spreading comfort.
Spreading Joy Through Song in New Jersey Hospitals
I came across this great story from a Patch post that told the story of Ava Silva Costa, the teen who is a sophomore at the Ranney School in Tinton Falls. She started a non-profit to help area hospital patients in New Jersey by comforting them with music.
Ava started the nonprofit Arturo Healing Hearts to bring calming music into hospitals to help patients relax. According to Patch, "Since the organization's launch over the summer, Arturo Healing Hearts has grown and quickly gained traction through Ava’s solo performances in infusion centers, cancer wings, and waiting rooms across RWJBarnabas Health and Monmouth Medical Center."
Community Call: Musicians Needed for Healing Performances
Ava wants to put together a group of musicians to visit area hospitals. According to her website, she is looking for high school musicians (grades 9-12) to volunteer. This sounds like a great way to help in the community and to add to a great high school resume.
