September 11 is always a day of remembrance, but this year marks a particularly significant anniversary. Friday, September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Nearly 700 New Jersey residents lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. “The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 2,977 people.”

In Ocean County, residents have several opportunities to come together, remember those who were lost, and honor the first responders and others who answered the call that day.

If you are looking for a local 9/11 remembrance ceremony, here are the ones I was able to confirm for Friday.

When and Where is the Toms River 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony?

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners and Toms River Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will hold a 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Friday morning.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at the Ocean County Courtyard, 129 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, near the county's 9/11 memorial.

This is the county's main 25th anniversary remembrance ceremony and is open to those who would like to attend and pay their respects.

When and Where is the Plumsted Township 9/11 Remembrance?

There will also be an annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Plumsted Township beginning at 9 a.m.

The ceremony will take place at 121 Evergreen Road in New Egypt.

One of the traditions of Plumsted's ceremony is the tolling of a ceremonial bell at the times corresponding with the attacks on the World Trade Center. There are also readings remembering the events of September 11, 2001.

It is a local ceremony that gives members of the Plumsted community and others a chance to come together and "Never Forget."

When and Where is the Point Pleasant Beach 9/11 Remembrance?

Point Pleasant Beach is also holding a September 11 Remembrance Ceremony this year.

The borough has announced that the ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. Friday, September 11, with participants gathering at the Monument Park area of the Bandshell at Arnold and Baltimore Avenues.

The ceremony will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

It is hard to believe that 25 years have passed since that September morning.

Many people remember exactly where they were when they first heard the news. I was on the air at 92.7 WOBM with my then Co-host Lisa Leonard. We stayed on the air for a good part of that day as information came in on the attacks.

Others may have family members, friends, coworkers, or neighbors whose lives were forever changed by what happened.

September 11 is also a day to remember the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, and ordinary people who stepped forward to help others.

There will certainly be other private gatherings and smaller remembrances around Ocean County, but I wanted to focus on ceremonies that I could confirm for September 11, 2026.

If you plan on attending one of these ceremonies, it is a good idea to arrive a little early, especially for the larger gathering in Toms River.

Twenty-five years later, the message remains the same: Never Forget.
