What Is the REAL Speed Limit on the Garden State Parkway?

Okay, I’ve got a question for my fellow Jersey drivers.

So I’m cruising down the Garden State Parkway, doing about 75 miles per hour, and somehow I feel like I’m standing still! Cars are flying past me, riding my bumper, and practically pushing me into the next lane.

So I have to ask: What is the REAL speed limit on the Garden State Parkway?

The posted speed limit is 65 miles per hour. But let’s be honest… how many people are actually doing 65? If you’re in the right lane doing the speed limit, there’s a pretty good chance somebody behind you is giving you the Jersey stink eye because they want to get around you!

Now, I’m not saying you should speed. In fact, slow down, folks! There’s a big difference between going a little faster than the posted limit and absolutely flying down the Parkway like you’re auditioning for NASCAR.

I’ve made the drive from Toms River toward Tuckerton plenty of times, doing around 75, only to have somebody blow past me so fast that they’re almost out of sight in seconds. And I’m sitting there thinking, How fast was that guy going? 80? 90? 100? Who knows!

And then there are the weavers. You know the ones. They’re jumping from lane to lane, squeezing into tiny spaces, cutting people off and making everyone hit their brakes. All that maneuvering just to get a few car lengths ahead. Is it really worth it?

Look, I get it. We’re in Jersey. We’re in a hurry. We’ve got somewhere to be. But the Parkway isn’t the Autobahn!

So I want to know what YOU think:

At what speed do you think New Jersey State Troopers start paying attention?

Have you ever been passed by someone who seemed to think they were driving on the Autobahn?

And seriously… does anyone actually stay at 65?!
