Atlantic City Police Investigate Shooting, Florida Man Arrested
A man from Florida has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in the World's Play Ground Monday evening.
Atlantic City Police say the scene unfolded around 5:30 on the 2400 block of Pacific Avenue.
Officers responded to the area following a ShotSpotter alert, and while investigating, officials said K9 Ofc. Robert Reynolds was stopped by 43-year-old Collin Forrestel of Gainesville, FL, who claimed that he had been shot in the face. Officers were also alerted to another man who was struck by gunfire and was now on the unit block of South Georgia Ave.
Forrestel was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division, where it was determined that he was not struck by gunfire.
The second man, 38 years old and from Philadelphia, was seriously injured by gunfire to his leg. An ACPD officer applied a tourniquet, and he was taken to the same hospital.
According to the department, an investigation determined that Forrestel and the victim became involved in an argument; Forrestel shot the victim, who punched Forrestel in the face.
Forrestel allegedly dumped the handgun in a construction dumpster, which was later recovered. That gun was later determined to have been stolen from a business by Forrestel in Galloway Township earlier in the day, per the ACPD.
Forrestel has been charged with attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a prohibitive device, and certain person not to possess a weapon. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
