Philadelphia Phillies Super Star Visits ‘Skinny Joey’s’ Cheesesteaks

Skinny Joey’s Cheesesteak Sub Shop opened on Friday, March 28, 2025 … owned and operated by Joey Merlino.

Earlier this week, Philadelphia Phillies super star, Bryce Harper visited and had a behind the scenes tour.

Below, is a look at Harper in the restaurant.

Following our initial article about “Skinny Joey’s Cheesteaks,”Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt took a drive to see what everyone is talking about.

Tibbitt timed his trip to arrive early. He was about the 15th customer in line earlier this week.

Tibbitt told me that within 30 minutes, the line of customers was extraordinarily long.

Tibbitt said that, “I enjoyed the sub and glad that I made the trip.”

Merlino’s new establishment is off and running and appears to be quite popular throughout the Delaware Valley.

One elected official that I spoke with is not a fan, saying “I won’t even try it … he (Merlino) hurt a lot of people that I know,” said the elected official.

It’s the only negative comment that I’ve heard, yet about “Skinny Joey’s.”

A retired police officer told me, “Everyone has forgiven Joey. They like him.”

Joey Merlino is planning on his Philadelphia cheesesteak shop to be the first of many in a national franchise model.
