There are many reports out there that rank all kinds of topics and how they stack up here in America. This particular topic is "fitness". A study looked at how states ranked when it came to physical fitness.

A new study was conducted by Run Reviews and they shared their findings. "RunReviews.com conducted an analysis to find out which states were in the best and worst shape. We fixed on two categories – health status and lifestyle indicators – and examined federal data for three metrics each across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. You can find the full methodology at the bottom of the page."

It's interesting to see some of the topics that were used to come up with the results of this survey. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, wellness check-ups, exercise, and gyms available.

According to Run Reviews "The states in the best shape tend to have low rates of obesity, heart disease and diabetes – and more gyms available nearby. In some states, though, there’s little relationship between residents’ health status and lifestyle indicators, underscoring that demographic differences, local infrastructure and other factors also influence health outcomes."

So how did the states rank when it came to "best in shape"? First, let's start with the worst. According to the study, West Virginia finished last. The bottom three were Mississippi, Arkansas, and West Virginia.

Finishing at the top of the study was Massachusetts, followed by Colorado and Connecticut. New Hampshire was 4th followed by New Jersey in 5th. I think that's very good, in fact, it's very good. By the way, the District of Columbia topped the list, but Massachusetts was the top state.

"Among all six metrics, obesity is the most closely associated with a state’s overall score. That means if a state has a lower obesity rate, it’s fair to assume they rank higher on the list of states in the best shape – and vice versa."

So keep exercising New Jersey you are doing pretty good and making us proud. Now I'm going to stop typing and go for a good walk. :)
