Peter Cancro has authored one of the true great business stories of all time but what makes his story such an amazing one is how he has used that success to help so many others.

So a little background.  As a senior at Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1975 the three-sport athlete purchased what was then Mike’s Subs (where he worked) gave up plans to attend the University of North Carolina and began building what we know today as Jersey Mike’s.  With more than 2,500 locations either open or in development the sub empire is everywhere!

However it’s the charitable giving that truly personifies Cancro and his business and once again this weekend they will team up with Feeding America which is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization to help the millions dealing with food insecurity.  Last year even in a pandemic Jersey Mike’s raised more than $4.6 million through two fundraisers for Feeding America which helped provide 46 million meals through their nationwide network of 200 local member food banks.

This Saturday and Sunday Jersey Mike’s will donate 20% of sales to help Feeding America and have promised a minimum donation of $2.5 million.  So whether you go in-store, or order take-out or place your order through their website or app you will be helping the more than 38 million people who face hunger in the U.S.  I know I’ll be watching football on Saturday and enjoying a “club sub” which is pretty typical.

In a press release Cancro said, “The Thanksgiving season is always the busiest time of year for food pantries and food banks nationwide, and Feeding America helps where the needs are the greatest.  We hope you can join us at Jersey Mike’s this weekend to make a difference in someone’s life.”

That’s what Peter Cancro has been doing and continues to do.
