Keansburg para-glider airlifted to hospital after falling face-first into water
A man paragliding in the waters hovering the Keansburg beach needed to be airlifted to the hospital after an accident on Wednesday around 2:21 pm.
Police say the 46-year old's glider veered right and when he tried to correct himself, he lost control and fell face first into the water and became unconscious.
Witnesses then helped the man back to shore before Keansburg EMS arrived on the scene.
The victim was then secured to a backboard, placed into a Humvee, and transported off of the beach to the Ambulance, where he was then taken to the St. John's Field and airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center by Medevac.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was contacted and advised of the incident.
His current condition is unknown.
"Thank you to the Keansburg EMS, Keansburg Fire Department, MONOC Paramedics and MONOC Medevac for their quick response and assistance," Keansburg Police Spokeswoman Lt. Sandra Burton said on Facebook. "Last but not least, a special thank you to the witnesses who acted quickly to rescue the victim from the water. The Keansburg Police Department wishes the victim a speedy recovery."
