Jersey takes its burgers seriously. Whether it’s food truck burgers with five toppings and a price tag to match, or backyard grill experiments gone wrong. Classic, greasy burgers always hit the spot. Simple. Comforting. Something to crave for lunch or a late-night drive.

We have heard a lot about once-packed burger joints closing, which is why I was excited to share news of a new burger destination. A regional chain operated by a former New York Giant, and this one is establishing a presence in NJ for the first time.

Why burgers always win in New Jersey

New Jersey has diners on every corner, and late-night places that somehow know just when you need fries. But there aren’t that many sliders-focused eateries. Shout out to White Manna. Small burgers mean more burgers. More bites. More variety. More excuses to order sides. Many grasp this math right away.

A familiar name with deep roots

Well, here is where it gets interesting. A famous burger brand that has quietly dominated another part of the country for decades is finally expanding north. It’s not doing it by itself. The push has been led by Victor Cruz, who was raised in New Jersey and has remained there. He has repeatedly spoken about home, community, and showing up for the places that shaped him. This next move is almost right in that lane.

This fast-food brand dates back to the early 1930s, and its name is rooted in small square burgers hot off the grill. Krystal is a leading burger chain across the South, with nearly 300 locations in 13 states. None, astonishingly, have been in the Northeast.

NJ.com reports that Krystal will open its first NJ location in Union on March 2 at 22 East Route 22. It will provide the whole slider menu, classic sides, and special items associated with Cruz himself. They're also hiring for shifts prior to opening.

New Jersey's Best Burger (According To You)

We take our food very seriously here in Jersey. If we're not talking Italian, it's all about who has the most creative, juicy and mouth watering burger in the state. I asked what you thought and you weren't shy!
