Lakewood man heading to prison for deadly hit-and-run

A Lakewood man behind the wheel of a car that caused an accident and the life of a person in the other vehicle is facing significant time in prison.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced Monday that Mashon Wilson, 30, of Lakewood, was sentenced by the Honorable Steven F. Nemeth, J.S.C., to six years in New Jersey State Prison following his previously entered guilty plea to Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death following a motor vehicle crash that occurred on November 25, 2018 in Lakewood.

Wilson was also sentenced to 45 days in the Ocean County Jail with credit for time served and has had his driving privileges suspended for six months, regarding his guilty plea to Driving While Suspended at the time of the accident.

He also received a four year sentence for state prison as a result of his previously entered guilty plea to an unrelated charge of Burglary.

The sentences will run concurrently.

His role in the accident led to the other driving suffering critical injuries, with the passenger in that vehicle being killed as a result of the crash.

This all took place on November 25, 2018 around 7:00 am along West County Line Road and Cedar Road.

Lakewood Police found a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban which had crashed into a tree with the driver critically injured, and the passenger pronounced dead on the scene.

Their investigation led them to the evidence the other vehicle a 2018 Nissan Sentra, had fled the scene but they were able to traced it to a residence in Lakewood where they found Wilson and two other individuals, Shayna Lee, 49, and Iyanna Hall, 30, both of Lakewood, both of whom told police that Lee was the driver of the Nissan in question.

Police learned they were lying and that Wilson was the actual driver of the vehicle.

Lee and Hall were both then charged with Hindering the Apprehension of Another by Giving a False Statement to a Police Officer and those charges remain pending.

Ocean County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Jamie Schron handled the case on behalf of the State.
