Now this is breaking news that I am excited to share.

A brand new law has just been passed and it states that the employment rights of the LGTBQ community are now protected under federal law.

So this means that people cannot be fired for their sexual orientation, gender identity or ANYTHING ELSE that makes people different.

“An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex. Sex plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the court.

YES!!!!!!!!!! This is so long overdue and should have been something implemented from the start. BUT I am happy I get to write about this now.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, New Jersey is one of 22 other states that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity etc.

Let that sink in: Less....than......half......

Now yes, this is amazing news and to have this type of law pass during Pride Month makes it that much sweeter of an announcement.

But LESS. THAN. HALF?!?!

According to APP.com, "28 states [in the USA] have little to no workplace protections for the LGBTQ community."

 It is estimated that there are approximately 11 million people in the USA that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer.

This is an amazing step forward and I hope to see rainbows throughout the Jersey Shore all pride month long.

But now the next questions sitting in my mind is: "How do we get this same protection for the LGBTQ community in all 50 states? Or even all over the world?"

We have some work to do but we will get there.
