Lots of area police officers will set out today on bicycles, riding more than 300 miles to honor their fallen brothers and sisters in blue.

The Police Unity Tour was started in New Jersey in 1997, and now has chapters nationwide.

It's done as a way to remember and raise awareness of officers who died in the line of duty and also to raise money for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum (NLEOM).

Every year more than a thousand police officers ride from their hometowns to the NLEOM in Washington, D.C.

This year's arrival ceremony takes place on Monday, May 12th at 2 p.m., during National Police Week.

Freehold Borough Police Department is one many local departments participating.

FBPD will be represented by Patrick Healey, Mark Wodell, Rich Ciampa, Sam Hernandez, Mike Sweetman, Diego Flores, and Shaun Hobbs.

Be safe on the ride guys, and thank you for all you do!
