A Manchester woman is recovering from injuries to both her legs after being hit by her own car outside Shop-Rite in the Manchester Plaza on Route 70 Wednesday around 12:00 pm.

Police say 80-year old Katherine Chaplin was waiting to turn into a parking space when she was hit by an unidentified white car backing out of another space striking her passenger side.

When she got out to inspect the damage her own car and talk to the other driver, her Honda then started rolling backwards which caused her to lose her balance and fall.

The front tire of the 2005 Honda Element then rolled over her legs.

Her Honda kept rolling back until it hit a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo which was parked with nobody inside.

Police say Chaplin put the car in reverse and thought it was in park.

Her injuries don't appear to be life threatening, according to police, who add that she was taken by Quality Medical Transport to Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

The original crash, now considered a hit-and-run, remains under investigation as police search for the driver of the white vehicle who fled after the collision.

Anyone who has information on the accidents should call Patrolman Anderson at 732-657-6111 extension 6400.
