Matt’s Year in Review – Amber Alert Open Letter
Back in February, many in New Jersey were woken up in the middle of the night by an Amber Alert on their phones. Luckily, Elinor was found safe. But after seeing people complain about losing sleep because of it, I felt compelled to write this open letter.
Dear everyone moaning that they got woken up by the Amber Alert early this morning,
Shut up.
Now my mother always smacked me when I said "shut up," but I would personally like to smack every self important person who is "dragging" today because their phone made a terrifying noise and woke them from their beauty sleep.
You know what must be terrifying? Having your 3 year old child removed from your home after being beat up by your ex-boyfriend.
Instead of using the power of social media for good, I have to see crap like this.
I can't say I'm surprised his user name is "fist pump."
While most decent people took the time to immediately share the Amber Alert, others used their time to post this:
If this little girl doesn't return home safely, it's likely going to be the end of the world for her mother, family and friends.
Amber Alerts save lives. They are not designed to occur when it's convenient for us.
So if you're a little sleepy today because your phone woke you up this morning, suck it up. And while you're at it, hug your child, niece, nephew or any child in your life and be thankful that you're not going through this nightmarish situation.
On four hours sleep for a good reason,
Matt Ryan
