Meet Local Navy Seaman and Information Warrior Grant Coskey

I really wanted to write something clever and funny about my nephew Grant. The truth of the matter is he’s always been a good kid, you know one of the good guys willing to lend a hand and go the distance at a moments notice. Someone with true grit. As I read the following story I realized how very proud I am of my nephew Grant, especially now as he embarks on what is sure to be an epic adventure in the US Navy as Seaman Grant Coskey.

"Information Warrior" is not a term we are used to seeing, but we may hear more about in the years to come. The web may be the next battleground and the United States has some of the best technology experts working to keep us safe when it comes to our "information".

Meet Grant Coskey of the US Navy. Grant graduated from  Middletown South High School in 2016 and is a Freehold, New Jersey, native. Seaman Coskey works as a cryptologic technician and operates out of the Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Corry Station in Pensacola, Florida.

The Navy says a cryptologic technician is responsible for analyzing electronic communications, jamming enemy radar signals, deciphering information in foreign languages and maintaining equipment and networks used to generate top-secret intel.

Coskey credits success in the Navy with lessons he learned growing up in Monmouth County. "I learned to be respectful to everybody," said Coskey.

Charged with developing the future technical cadre of the information warfare community, the CIWT domain leads, manages, and delivers Navy and joint force training to 22,000 students annually. With 1,200 military, civilian and contracted staff members, CIWT oversees about 200 courses at four information warfare training commands, two detachments, and additional learning sites located throughout the United States and Japan.

"Our sailors and staff are intentional about building trust, demonstrating teamwork, pursuing growth, and instilling grit which makes our command thrive in training information warfare professionals for the Navy the nation needs," said Cmdr. Chad Smith, commanding officer of IWTC Corry Station.
