Monmouth County, NJ investigators seek witnesses of fatal Asbury Park, NJ shooting
A fatal shooting in Asbury Park remains under investigation by city police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
Asbury Park Police found 19-year-old Dariel Vernet of Asbury Park suffering from multiple gunshot wounds along the 100 block of Prospect Avenue near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue around 5:45 pm on Friday afternoon, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.
Vernet was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City but was pronounced dead about one hour later.
Acting Prosecutor Linskey said that the autopsy performed on Sunday confirmed the way in which Vernet died was in fact a homicide.
The homicide investigation continues and is being run by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department.
