Those bathroom breaks may have to wait a little longer after Labor Day weekend.

The Monmouth Service Area is closing for planned renovations on September 3 and will not be reopening until Memorial Day weekend 2019. This means no gas and no restrooms.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Thomas Feeney told NJ Advanced Media that there will be major improvements including new restaurants and facilities. There hasn't been an announcement of what exactly is going into the new Monmouth Service Area.

HMS Host who employs a majority of the workers at the Monmouth rest stop told NJ Advanced Media that managers will be relocated during the renovations and some employees will go to malls and airports. However, there are many that will be out of work for nearly 7 months!

The cost of the revamp is estimated to cost $11.45 million.

The Thomas Edison Service Area on the Turnpike in Woodbridge will also close for renovations during the same time period.
