New Jersey may not have a lot of physical space, but many of our residents have traveled to space. There are a lot of astronauts that hail from New Jersey, twelve to be exact.
It's the dream of so many children as they are growing up. The thought of being an astronaut and traveling to space is amazing.
Lots Of Astronauts Have Had New Jersey Ties
There are a lot of New Jersey residents who turned that dream into a lifelong passion and an incredible career.
According to NJ Spotlight News. here are the astronauts from New Jersey.
Buzz Aldrin. Yes, a New Jersey guy was the second human being to set foot on the moon, many years before he set foot on the Dancing With The Stars dance floor. Aldrin (Glen Ridge) made history on July 21, 1969.
Kathryn Dwyer Sullivan. She was the first woman to walk in space. She was born in Paterson.
The List Of New Jersey Characters Goes On
Wally Schirra, from Hackensack, was the first astronaut to fly three times. He was on Apollo 7, Gemini 6A, and Mercury 8.

Here are the other astronauts from New Jersey in no apparent order. There is Plainfield's Kenneth Ham, Gregory Linteras from Englewood, William Pailes from Hackensack, and Mary Polansky from Paterson.
Also on the list of New Jersey astronauts are Scott Kelly from Orange, Jersey City's George Zamka, and Garrett Reisman of Morristown.
Rounding out the 12 New Jersey astronauts are Rusty Schweickart from Neptune and Mark Kelly from Orange.
