This Experiment Suggests NJ Drivers Are More Patient Than Before
I did a small social experiment, and the results may reveal that the people of New Jersey are becoming more patient.
Unscientific Study Shows New Jersey Drivers Are Becoming More Patient
I did a simple study of the patience level of New Jersey drivers, and here's how I did it. Anytime I was the first car at a red light, I waited up to ten seconds before moving to see how long the car behind me took to beep.
I tried it in 5 different towns. I chose random lights in Freehold, Brick, Toms River, Manalapan, and Asbury Park.
I had done this same exercise a few years back in the same towns, and I got beeped at within 10 seconds in 4 of the 5 towns.
Which New Jersey Towns Are The Least Patient At Traffic Lights?
The town that won the crown as the quickest beeper was Brick, with Manalapan close behind.

The only town that remained beepless, even after 10 long seconds, was Asbury Park. But what happened this time around?
Here are the results of my very unscientific study. You might be surprised at the results. And I mean happily surprised.
Beeping When The Light Turns Green In New Jersey
Freehold - At the light at Rt. 537 and South St., the driver behind me almost made it the full 10 seconds. I got a quick little toot of the horn in 8 seconds.
Brick - The intersection at Brick Blvd. and Beaverson was not a patient place. I was beeped at in under 2 seconds.

Toms River - I was at the light at Bay Ave. and Hooper Ave, and I was treated nicely. No beep at all. That's incredible.
Manalapan. - The light was on Route 9 and Ryan Rd., and the beep was almost immediate. I didn't have time to start the stopwatch.
Asbury Park - I did the test on Main St. and Bangs Ave. I stayed frozen at the green light for 10 full seconds, and not one beep.
The incredible results are that at 60% of the lights, I either didn't get beeped at, or only after almost nine seconds.
Since Asbury Park was the only town to go without beeping in consecutive tests, that town gets the crown as the most patient.
And Brick and Manalapan, better luck next time. Overall, New Jersey drivers were more patient than last time, and much more patient than I thought they would be.
