Newark woman wanted in connection with Ocean County drug bust arrested

A Newark woman at large for her role in a massive drug ring that was the largest drug bust in 30-years in Ocean County turned herself into her Jersey City Attorney's Office Monday, according to the OC Prosecutor Joe Coronato.

Akera Lewis, 27, of Newark, who was listed as fugitive during the Ocean County Prosecutors investigation announcement on Friday March 9, is charged with second degree Conspiracy Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, third degree Possession of Heroin, third degree Possession Heroin with Intent, and third degree Distribution of Heroin.

Ocean County investigators and other law enforcement agencies brought in nearly $3,000,000.00, including about $2,000,000.00 in cash, and also seized 27 vehicles, 20 firearms, 90,000 doses of raw heroin and 19-pounds of cocaine.

They also closed down nine drug production facilities across New Jersey.

Judge Wendel E. Daniels ordered detention for Rasheed Sanders, 37, of East Orange, yesterday as well.

Sanders was arrested and charged on February 17, 2018 with first degree Possession with Intent (Cocaine over 5oz), second degree Possession of a Firearm while Committing a CDS Offense (Loaded AK 47) and Possession of Paraphernalia Disorderly Persons.

On March 2 Sanders was charged additionally with fourth degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons and Possession of an Assault Weapon.

OCPO Assistant Prosecutor Jamie L. Schon presented critical details supporting OCPO’s position that Sanders be detained which ultimately led to Judge Daniels’ final ruling yesterday.
