Here's some information that will shock New Jersey residents to the core. We are the most impatient state when it comes to phone calls.

New Jersey Is America's Most Impatient Phone State

I don't know about you, but when I get a call, I am already trying to get off the phone before I even answer it. That's the ultimate in impatience.

I don't think I'm that much different from most New Jersey residents. We're too busy for any interruptions, especially a call we didn't ask for.

The study that names New Jersey as the country's most impatient state on the phone is reported at MoneyPenny, and it focuses on the level of patience a caller has when they are placed on hold.

New Jersey Is The First State To Hang Up

Not surprisingly, the busy folks from New Jersey were the first to hang up. Who in the Garden State has time to be on hold for anyone?

For the record, nearly half of the people in America will not stay on hold more than ten minutes, which for Garden State residents seems like a ridiculous eternity.

For me, the first determination for how long I stay on hold is the importance of the call, so I have come up with my own system

The Breakdown Of How Long To Stay On Hold In New Jersey

I broke it down into examples. Maybe you'll like this, and you can use it, too:

General Business Call - 3 minutes. If I'm trying to make reservations, have a FAQ, or something like that, you have about the length of a song before I'm out of there.

Something Regarding One Of My Accounts - Maybe it's the bank, the cable company, or any other personal account, I'll extend it to 5 minutes. It's information that directly affects me, after all.

Doctor Related or Kid Related - If it involves anything to do with your health or anything to do with the kids, the hold time has to be allowed to be infinite. We'd like to make it ten minutes, but if we have to, we'll wait longer.

I will say this in response to New Jersey being the most impatient state in America on the phone. I like us this way, and I wouldn't change a thing.
