It's no secret the foot and motor vehicle traffic increase at the Jersey Shore over the summer months, between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend especially, and that's why law enforcement everywhere wants you to be their extra set of eyes in preventing crime and tragedy this summer.

The Jersey Shore is gearing up to host millions of residents and tourists ready to enjoy their favorite beaches, food, and family-friendly activities in the summer of 2019.

Ahead of the summer rush the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness has launched its second annual “Secure the Shore” Initiative.

A subsection of the year-round “See Something, Say Something” campaign, this seasonal initiative assists coastal communities in reducing risk and vulnerabilities due to an influx of visitors for various outdoor activities and events.

“Secure the Shore” focuses on municipalities within Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, and Cape May counties and encourages outreach with local, county, State, and federal law enforcement partners, as well as heightened public awareness of the “See Something, Say Something” campaign.

NJOHSP has identified opportunities to assist coastal communities in strengthening security measures in preparation for the summer.

Through direct funding initiatives for target hardening, NJOHSP will collaborate with businesses, law enforcement partners, and local officials to maximize capabilities in shore towns.

“As our State continues to navigate through an ever-changing threat environment, we must evolve to prepare for and thwart threats of any kind,” Jared Maples, Director of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness said. “Community involvement and reporting, alongside a united and well-equipped law enforcement front, is essential to the continued safety and security of New Jersey’s residents and visitors.”

The constant vigilance of law enforcement and the public combined with the assistance provided by federal funding helps the State meet its commitment to downgrade the risks faced by these shore communities.

NJOHSP encourages everyone heading to the Jersey Shore this summer to be aware of any suspicious activity and remember, if you “See Something, Say Something” by calling 1-866-4-SAFE-NJ or emailing tips@njohsp.gov.
