The Motor Vehicle Commission in New Jersey has been struggling since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

There have been lines that are HOURS long, power outages and who knows what else. MVC is struggling.

Well public officials are working to get things organized and back in order.

Starting Tuesday, New Jersey MVCs that are designated vehicle centers will be hosting senior hours for those who are 65 years old and older from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

These hours are not being applied to leasing centers.

These hours are also for people who are medically prohibited from wearing a mask. You must provide a doctors note if you cannot wear a face mask. You will be given a face shield.

You do not need an appointment before showing up and you do not need to arrive before 2:00 PM to be seen during this time slot.

Unfortunately, no license transactions can take place during these hours. It will only be, "for business regarding new and used car purchases only."

“These designated hours will allow us to protect our vulnerable seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic for one of the very few transactions that require an in-person visit,’’ said Chief Administrator Sue Fulton.

Also keep in mind that Governor Murphy passed a law that allows seniors (65+) to renew their licenses online to avoid going out in public during a health pandemic.

In addition, the deadline for residents who are new to New Jersey has been extended to try and spread out the influx of people visiting the MVC at one time. You now have 120 days instead of 60 to get your license handled.

I am always a fan of anything that will help our seniors or others that are considered at high risk during this scary time.

Let's share this story as much as we can so that everyone who wants to utilize these new hours can do so.
