NJ’s 25 Safest Towns Just Got Ranked, See Where Yours Landed
If the dangerous towns list had you feeling a certain way about Jersey, here's the flip side. We took the same crime data and flipped it around to find the 25 safest towns in the state, and the results might make you feel a little better about calling New Jersey home.
How We Ranked These Towns
The rankings come from the FBI's 2024 Uniform Crime Report, crunched by the HomeSnacks team. They looked at every NJ town with more than 5,000 residents, over 300 of them, and ranked each one on two things: violent crime per capita and property crime per capita. They averaged those two rankings into a "Safety Index," and the town with the lowest combined score landed at number one.

What Makes These Towns So Safe
A lot of it comes down to size and setting. Most of the towns on this list are small, tucked away from busy corridors, and built around that classic quiet suburban feel. Several of them posted zero violent crimes for the entire year, which is about as good as the numbers can get. Bergen and Morris counties show up again and again near the top, but Monmouth County actually holds the number one spot statewide.
It's also worth remembering these are per capita numbers, not raw totals. That means a small town with barely any crime at all can easily outrank a much bigger city, even one with a solid reputation.
