NJAW to replace aging water main in Lakewood

New Jersey American Water continues their upgrading of water mains at the Jersey Shore as they announce that crews will be heading into Lakewood next week.

NJAW will replace approximately 1,150 feet of aging water main in Lakewood this fall and upgrade the water lines, which were installed back in the 1940's, with larger, ductile iron main.

This project will take place along Congress Street from Woehr Avenue to Route 88 and Manetta Place from Route 9 to the end of the street.

The project also includes installing a new fire hydrant and replacing 33 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.

This $320,000.00 investment is intended to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in Lakewood.

This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

New Jersey American Water’s contractor, CRJ Contracting, will begin work on or about September 23 and expects to finish by November, weather permitting.

Preliminary work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

To begin work on Manetta Place, there will be a minimum of two nights work on Route 9 to start the project.

Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule.

Final street restorations will be completed approximately 90 days after base paving has been installed.
