Here’s What Happens if a Nuclear Bomb Hits New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania
The consequences of a nuclear bomb being detonated in the tri-state area would be severe and would completely change the landscape forever.
The short-term effects would depend on many factors, including but not limited to the size of the bomb, strike location, and population density.
Newsweek did an article about nuclear fallout using the knowledge of a historian of nuclear technology.
It was fascinating and bone-chilling at the same time.
Newsweek also used interactive maps to put nuclear fallout in perspective.
What would happen if a nuclear bomb hit New York City?
A bomb dropped on New York City is likely to lead to millions of deaths and mass destruction of the economy and our infrastructure.
If the strongest known nuclear bomb hit New York City, it's estimated that there would be over eight million deaths and 6.6 million injuries.
The innermost circle is the fireball radius.
According to Nuclear Secrecy, anything inside the fireball is effectively vaporized.
Within the second closest radium to the blast, or the second circle, our historian of nuclear technology, Aaron Wellerstein, says most residential buildings will collapse, injuries will be universal, and fatalities will be widespread.

The chances of a fire starting in commercial and residential damage are high, and buildings so damaged are at high risk of spreading fire.
For those inside the third farthest ring from the center that extends as far north as New York state and as far south as Lakewood, New Jersey, Wallerstein claims all would experience third-degree burns that he says are often painless because they destroy the pain nerves.
They can cause severe scarring and ever require amputation.
Even inside the farthest radius circle from the center of the blast, some windows will still blow out, and residents will be able to see the flash of light from the bomb.
What would happen if a nuclear bomb hit Philadelphia?
Experts predict that if Russia were to hit Philadelphia with its strongest nuke, there would be an estimated 2.6 million fatalities and 3.1 million injuries.
