Going out to eat in Jersey can feel like a major financial decision.

Between the valet, the cocktails, and the appetizers, some spots just leave you wondering: Was that tiny filet really worth $80?

Don't get me wrong, these places are not bad. In fact, they’re really good.

The bill hits just hits differently.

I asked New Jersey locals to identify the most overpriced restaurants in the state.

These establishments have excellent reputations, but will leave you with sticker shock.

River Palm Terrace – Edgewater

White tablecloths, dim lighting, and a steak that practically melts. But heads up, everything’s à la carte, and the bill adds up fast

Want mashed potatoes with that $60 ribeye? That’ll be an extra $12.

Oh, and that martini you ordered while waiting for a table? Add another $18.

You can't beat the view of the Hudson, though. The phenomenal food and ambiance keep regulars coming back again and again.

The Lobster House – Cape May

This legendary seafood spot has been around forever, and the fresh catches are solid.

But for a place where you might be dining on picnic tables, the prices can raise eyebrows.

A lobster dinner can easily set you back $70+, and that’s before drinks or dessert.

You’re mostly paying for the location, the name, and the whole Cape May feel.

It's absolutely worth it on occasion, but it's a splurge location.

Rat's Restaurant – Hamilton

You'll find Rat's inside the Grounds for Sculpture, and it's gorgeous.

There are cobblestone paths, footbridges, fireplaces, and garden views all within sight while you dine.

But you’re definitely paying for the setting.

The French menu is fancy, and the prices reflect that. For example, $38 for duck confit, $19 for a salad, and $12 for bread service.

Brunch is easily $ 75 or more per person, including drinks.

Also, if you’re there during peak times, you’re also paying $10–$20 just to park and get in the sculpture grounds before you even sit down.

However, I recommend everybody visit Rat's at least once.

Scarpetta – The District at American Dream, East Rutherford

Scarpetta’s location in New York City is already legendary for its upscale Italian food. The American Dream location is no different.

It’s sleek and stylish, and the prices match.

You’ll shell out $29 for spaghetti. That said, it is incredible. Cocktails will set you back $20 a piece.

Scarpetta is not your average mall food court experience.

Ninety Acres – Peapack-Gladstone, NJ

Ninety Acres is all about farm-to-table, and we know that's not cheap.

The restaurant is located on the grounds of Pendry Natarir in beautiful Peapack.

The fixed-price menus range from about $100 to $150 per person, and while the ingredients are top-notch, portion sizes are tiny.

Don’t come hungry unless you also packed snacks for the ride home.
