Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Brick Police Chief James Riccio made the announcement Monday that Michael Stallworth, 37, of Seaside Heights, who had been a fugitive from justice, surrendered himself to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division earlier today.

After doing so, Stallworth was brought to the Ocean County Jail where Prosecutor Billhimer says he will remain pending a detention hearing.

The 44-year old man Stallworth stabbed on July 26 remains in critical but stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Brick Police were joined in the investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

While Stallworth was identified early on as the suspect and charged, he was nowhere to be found, so a warrant was issued and a plea by Prosecutor Billhimer for him to turn himself in.

He has now done so.

The man who helped Stallworth avoid apprehension was arrested right away following the stabbing incident.
