Several injured after dump truck runs red light in Manchester

There are multiple people injured as a result of a four-vehicle collision Wednesday morning at the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and Wranglebrook Road in the Whiting section of Manchester Township shortly after 8:00 am.

Police learned through their investigation that the driver of a white 2021 Ford F450 dump truck, 24-year old Eric Bair of Manahawkin, was driving north on Manchester Boulevard when he ran through a red light at the Wranglebrook Road intersection and hit a black 2011 Ford Escape driven by 55-year-old Jeffery Allen of Whiting who was heading west at the time from Wranglebrook Road to Pleasant Valley Road.

As a result of that initial collision, the Ford Escape then was forcibly redirected into the northbound lanes and the Ford F450 into the southbound lanes of Manchester Boulevard where a white 2014 Ford E450 bus, driven by 62-year-old Betty Brushaber of South Toms River, and a white 2019 Mercedes Benz A22, driven by 64-year old Angel Plunkett, were waiting at their respective traffic light.

The Ford F450 dump truck then collided head-on with the Ocean E450 and veered off the road.

The E450 rotated on its rear side tires and then struck the Mercedes.

Manchester Police said that Bair, who was determined to not be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained injuries in the collision.

Brushaber also reported injuries as did Allen.

Bair, Brushaber, and Allen were all then brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Plunkett and her six-month-old infant grandchild, who was in the car with her during the accident, both did not have any reported injuries.

The investigation into the multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning continues but at this point, Manchester Police said that "failure to observe a traffic signal and careless driving are contributing factors."
