Why is Shell closing 1,000 gas stations?

Finance Buzz reports:

According to official statements from Shell, the closings align with its shifting focus to provide electric vehicle charging and convenience offers. The company plans to shut down over 1,000 locations by the end of 2025 and install 70,000 public charging stations in the same time frame.

It seems like price pains at the pump are causing consumers to migrate to EVs or electric vehicles.

Shell believes that as early as 2030, oil demand could start falling for the first time in a while.

These closures and the increase in public charging stations are simply a plan for the future.

How much do you save with an electric vehicle?

According to Consumer Reports, EV owners save an average of $4,600 in repairs and maintenance over the car's lifespan. It's about 8.1 cents per mile.

That's not including the generous rebates that are offered to drivers.

There are plenty of cost-saving benefits to owning an electric vehicle, but there are some drawbacks as well.

If you like to drive long distances, I've been told that having an EV can be a headache.

Instead of stopping for five minutes or so to fill up your tank, you have to sit at a charging station, which takes considerably longer.
