So are we going to get walloped by snow OR are we looking at much smaller amounts from the Nor’easter heading our way?  Either way the good news is that it’s happening on a Saturday which doesn’t interfere with schools and work for most people.  I guess we will just have to wait.

The forecast alone will result in numerous changes to the local sports schedule as we reach the end of January.  The Shore Conference Wrestling Tournament has already moved its semifinal and championship round to Monday and Central Regional will make a decision this morning on their annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Showcase set for Saturday. Sunday is the snow date for that event which has raised thousands of dollars thanks to the effort of Coach Mike Clemente, his family and the school district.

Speaking of basketball there are some major changes in regards to the dates and locations of this year’s Shore Conference Tournament, which is the highlight of the winter sports schedule.  The seeding meeting is set for Sunday, February 13 with play-in and round of 16 games at the higher seeds on Tuesday and Thursday of that week.  The quarterfinals will be played at Middletown South with the girls on Saturday, February 19 and the boys the next day.  The final four advance to the RWJBarnabas Health Arena with the girls semifinals on Tuesday the 22nd and the boys two days later on Thursday.  For scheduling reasons the championship games will be played on Sunday, February 27 in Toms River with the girls game at 1pm and the boys at 3pm.  There will be no advance sales with all tickets sold on Sunday.

So can the NFL hope to duplicate last weekend’s playoff drama this Sunday with the AFC and NFC Championship games.  They can hope but can’t expect it to happen.  I think the Chiefs will handle the Bengals easily while the 49ers will continue their mastery over the Rams.  Of course I’m not right very often.
