An investigation is underway into a multi-car collision on Route 72 in Stafford on Saturday but police say the cause looks to have been a result of excessive speeds.

Stafford Police arrived to milepost 26.4 around 3:47 pm and learned that Hunter L. Dyer, 26, of Little Egg Harbor was heading west in a 2012 Hyundai Sonata when he crashed into a 2015 Lexus operated by Olga Asusky, 73, of Cedar Run.

Dyer then crashes into the back of a 1999 Lincoln Towncar driven by Keith Kiernan, 41, of Little Egg Harbor whose vehicle spun around multiple times before becoming lodged in the right lane of Route 72.

Kiernan had 3 other passengers on board, Russell Smith, 42 of Westfield, Angela Norton, 40 of Little Egg Harbor and a juvenile age 8.
Police said Dyer’s vehicle continued off the road, across the pedestrian sidewalk, grass median finally stopped in the middle of East Bay Avenue near the Mallard Island Yacht Club.
Kiernan and the juvenile were flown to Jersey Shore Trauma Center for treatment and are currently listed in stable condition.
Dyer was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for minor treatment and released.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Justin Pascale of the Traffic Safety Division.
